Mr. Horn relies on his extensive experience in private practice and on the federal bench in guiding parties and counsel to settlement of a wide range of disputes. While on the bench, for example, then Judge Horn conducted Judicial Settlement Conferences and/or presided over the full gamut of federal civil litigation, including labor and employment disputes (claims under Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and ERISA, for example); patent, trademark, and copyright claims; civil rights and other constitutional claims; a wide variety of construction, education, insurance, and antitrust claims; and a variety of personal and commercial claims brought under the District Court's diversity jurisdiction. His skills and expertise in alternative dispute resolution have also been honed by his years of teaching a popular practical skills course at Charlotte School of Law titled "Interviewing, Counseling, & Negotiations."

As partially noted on our Home Page, Mr. Horn has been recognized as a leader of the legal profession by his peers through his selection to serve as the Federal Court Liaison for the North Carolina Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Committee, and being named a "North Carolina Super Lawyer" in 2011 - 2020, to the American Registry's list of "Top Attorneys in North Carolina" in 2012 - 2020, and to The Best Lawyers in America "in the practice of mediation" in 2020.

Although no specific results can be guaranteed, Mr. Horn has enjoyed success in settling the great majority of cases he has mediated, both in Judicial Settlement Conferences while serving on the bench and in mediations since retiring to private practice.
